This paper examines how plastic pollution is fundamentally related to climate change. This paper also studies how plastic contributes to greenhouse gas emissions from the beginning to the end of its life. Moreover, it also demonstrates that climate change will exacerbate the spread of plastic in the natural environment. The marine environment is affected by both issues, and some species and ecosystems are particularly vulnerable to them, such as coral reefs, which are plagued by diseases caused by plastic pollution and bleaching due to climate change. Studies on climate change and plastic pollution in the ocean are often siloed, with only 0.4% examining both stressors concurrently. The paper concludes that it would be beneficial to determine the factors linking both and identify solutions. Currently, there exists a data gap for the same.
