This study investigates microplastic (MP) contamination in peri-urban agricultural soils around Lahore, Pakistan. Soil samples from four sites—Kala Shah Kaku (KSK), Punjab University (PU), Dera Gujran (DG), and Sagian (SG)—were analysed using NOAA protocols and FTIR spectroscopy. The highest MP contamination was at SG (876 ±194 MPs/kg) and the lowest at PU (672 ±235 MPs/kg), though site differences were not statistically significant (p = 0.29). Fibers were the predominant shape (79.73%), followed by sheets, fragments, and foam, with 95% of MPs being <2 mm and 85% <1 mm. Transparent MPs (89.57%) dominated among nine recorded colours. Six polymers, including PE, PET, PP, PS, PC, and PVC, were identified. The findings reveal significant MP pollution levels, higher than many global sites, highlighting diverse sources and potential risks to agricultural ecosystems.
