This paper highlights that research on public attitudes is vital to understanding whether plastic pollution control policies are being successfully implemented and the degree to which the public is involved. Based on China’s whole life cycle management policy for plastics, this study has collected more than 200,000 relevant comments and user information from Sina Weibo to analyse and evaluate public attitudes and opinions towards plastic pollution control. A spatial-temporal analysis was conducted to discover the regional and temporal differences in public attention. The emotional tendencies of public attitudes toward ten subdivided plastic pollution control links were studied using the sentiment classification method. From the analysis, it was found that more people held a positive attitude and paid more attention to reusing and sorting links, while the negative emotions were concentrated on the collection and sorting of links. The research also highlights the policy implications that were derived from the current study.
