The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India, has devised this regulatory framework for plastic waste management in India. These rules have been generated to decrease waste generation and increase recycling and source segregation as well as to involve waste pickers, recyclers and waste processors in plastic waste collection from households or other sources of production. These rules also include provisions for the implementation of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) and adopt the polluter’s pay principle for the sustainability of the waste management system.
