This study examines microplastic (MP) contamination in agricultural soils under different farming practices (mulching, greenhouse, and traditional plantation). Soil samples from shallow (0–5 cm) and deep (5–10 cm) layers revealed MP abundances ranging from 373 ± 236 to 7,888 ± 1,797 items/kg, with higher abundance and smaller particles in deeper layers, indicating vertical transport. MPs <1 mm, primarily fragments and fibers in black, white, and transparent colours, were most common. Analysis using LDIR and µ-FTIR identified 20 polymer types, predominantly polyethylene terephthalate and polypropylene. Facility agriculture, such as mulching and greenhouses, contributed to higher MP pollution, with MPs showing weathering features and chemical pollutants like Ti, Br, and Cu. These findings highlight the environmental risks of MPs associated with soil systems.
