The study was conducted in Qinghai Province, northwest China, and examined the distribution of microplastics (MPs) in agricultural soils in the low-altitude areas. Findings revealed that film and fibre were the main types, accounting for 67% and 29%, respectively. The spatial distribution of MPs was also analysed, revealing that heavily polluted areas were mainly concentrated in densely populated areas in the east. Altitude was found to have a negative correlation with MPs abundance, with ultraviolet light accelerating the ageing and degradation of MPs. This study provides a theoretical basis for further research on MPs in agricultural ecosystems in northwest China.
